It all started with a Teddy, a Costume... and a Brilliant Idea!

Once upon a less-than-glamourous Sunday morning, head pounding, coffee in hand, dignity nowhere to be found, an idea sparked into life. Dressed as Mr Bean, Teddy in tow, our founder, Kyle, had one of those lightbulb moments that can only come when you're a little sleep-deprived and a lot inspired: “Let’s take Teddy on his travels this year!”

But let’s rewind a bit.

Five years ago, while travelling through Australia, Kyle found himself in the middle of nowhere doing farm work to extend his visa. Picture it: 100 backpackers, a rural hostel, and not a lot else. Entertainment was very much a DIY affair. One Saturday night, someone had the brilliant idea of a movie-themed fancy dress party. Kyle’s choice? Mr Bean, naturally.

A quick trip to the local charity shops later, he returned with a blazer, a red tie, and the essential final touch, Teddy.

The costume was a hit (there may have been dance moves involved), but the next morning? Let’s just say Kyle was a little worse for wear.

Wanting to give Teddy a new purpose after rescuing him from a charity shop, and reeling from the news that he’d miss the birth of his cousin while away from home, Kyle had an idea. If he couldn’t be there himself, maybe he could still send a bit of love back home. So he decided to take Teddy along on his adventures for the next year, capturing moments of breathtaking scenery, silly snapshots, and everything in between. Teddy became more than a travel buddy, he was a tiny ambassador of love, humour, and connection, helping Kyle stay close to home, even from thousands of miles away.

And just like that, the first stitch in the story of the Cuddly Companion Company was sewn.

With Teddy in hand, the journey continued, not in boardrooms with suits and spreadsheets, but on beaches and mountain trails. From the golden sands of Airlie Beach to the winding roads of Vietnam’s Hai Van Pass, Teddy went everywhere. He didn’t say much (strong, silent type), but he soaked up the sights, collected stories, and never once asked for an upgrade.

The miles added up, but more importantly, so did the memories. One unforgettable stop? A birthday party for a one-year-old boy. Teddy wasn’t just a toy that day, he was an adventurer, a gift of love, a plush pioneer passed from traveller to toddler.

That was the moment Kyle knew this idea wasn’t just fun, it meant something.

Fast forward six years, and the dream grew legs, four of them, to be exact. Enter Coco, our fearless mascot, muse, and master of the puppy dog eyes. With his paw print quite literally stamped across our designs, Coco became the face (and wagging tail) of our first plush: Coco, The Adventure Mascot.

He’s not just for wanderers, dog lovers, or plush toy fanatics (though we adore you all). Coco is for the quirky, the quiet, the curious. For big-hearted kids and big kids at heart. For adventurers, over-packers, and those in need of a little emotional support at Gate 26B.

Coco’s conquered Snowdon (backpack-powered, but still impressive), posed by tractors at Diddly Squat, and even shared a pint at Weatherspoons (purely for the photo). He “runs” 10Ks, spiritually, of course, and always manages to sneak into selfies like a pro.

But his favourite place? Snuggled in a suitcase, zip slightly open, ears poking out, ready for the next trip.

What began with laughter, a costume, and a teddy has become a celebration of storytelling, design, and the beautiful chaos of life. Coco might be soft, but he’s got a bold heart, and he’s ready for your next adventure.
